With AMD’s support, AIF was able to establish four full-service Digital Equalizer (DE) centers in the Uttar Pradesh Fatehpur district. The program has reached new heights with the help of new AMD computers (five per school). Program development is expanding with over 1,500 students and 25 teachers receiving training. Because of the success of the Fatehpur DE centers, large-scale collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh is being explored.

AIF Mission
The American India Foundation is devoted to accelerating social and economic change in India.

AIF Vision

  • To contribute to building an India where all people can gain access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities and where every Indian can realize their full potential.
  • To build a trusted bridge between the dreams and aspirations of Individuals who care about India and their realization.
  • To provide a secure channel for philanthropic funding in the US and its effective utilization in India in collaboration with best-of-breed NGO’s, foundations and non-profit organizations
  • To build a professional organization that is secular, transparent, credible, and accountable for all of its activities.

The American India Foundation (AIF) is a leading international development organization charged with the mission of accelerating social and economic change in India. By mobilizing people and resources across the United States, AIF has raised over $45 million since its inception in 2001. AIF’s initiatives center around education, livelihood, and public health projects in India – with emphases on elementary education, women’s empowerment, and HIV/AIDS, respectively.

AIF also administers two programs: (1) the Service Corps, which develops young American leaders by placing them with Indian non-profits based on skills and need; (2) the Digital Equalizer, which bridges the “digital divide” by providing computers, Internet, and training to under-resourced schools.

Digital Equalizer Program

Vision
An India where ALL children have access to technology and information to prepare them for the emerging Digital Age

Mission
To advance the use of technology to engage, educate, enrich and empower India’s under-served children.

The American India Foundation's (AIF) DE (DE) Program is a Computer Aided Learning (CAL) program that is bridging the education and digital divide in India and preparing tens of thousands of children to compete in the digital economy. Targeting children in grades 6 through 10 (ages 10-14), AIF supports a DE school for 3 years and prepares the school for complete self-sufficiency after that period. DE imparts computer and Internet education to students and teachers through comprehensive activity-based learning techniques. The program is tightly integrated with the school curriculum thereby improving subject matter expertise through the use of technology.

The long-term objective is to use the DE model to influence education policy - advocating the role of technology in improving the quality of education and institutionalizing the program within the Indian public school system to reach the most marginalized children across India.
